From four wheels to two
A change of perspective
For your journey to the Schlei, the golden mean between North Sea and Baltic Sea, you will either choose to arrive by car or public transport. So it is all the more exciting to change your perspective by getting on your bike and discovering this colourful nature paradise.
During the merry month of May, you can enjoy the fragrant, yellow rapeseed fields appealing to all of your senses with a particularly beautiful contrast to the maritime character of this region. All year-round, the picturesque villages shape the natural scenery around the Schlei and Baltic Sea. The settlement of Sieseby with its thatched houses shows once more a typical North German character, whereas Waabs and Langholz present themselves with a special Baltic Sea setting and a fantastic panoramic view of the coast.
From a bicycle perspective, on the other hand, the Geltinger Bucht shows its pure untouched nature. The nature reserve Geltinger Birk invites you to a bike tour to get up close to a wide variety of plants and animals. The tracks around the Charlotte windmill and the Falshöft lighthouse are also very pleasant to ride on.
In addition to the natural atmosphere in Schleswig and Kappeln, there are also cultural aspects. When cycling in Schleswig around the Schlei you will reach Hedeby, a Viking Age trading settlement, but also Schleswig's fishing settlement Holm and its peaceful historic centre with its small alleys are perfectly suitable for cyclists. In Kappeln, the focus is on fishery too. Don't worry if you get caught, however. The harbour and the small alleys as well as the museum harbour are also a nice destination for bicycle tours.
