Where the Schlei becomes the Baltic SeaLotseninsel Schleimünde
Where the Schlei meets the baltic sea
The Lotseninsel (pilot's island) at Schleimünde is where the Schlei and Baltic Sea meet. In Schleimünde, there is a small sailing port and a distinctive lighthouse with green and white stripes which shows the correct way into the Schlei since 1872.
The 112 hectare area is only 5 metres above sea level with a small and very particular restaurant: the Giftbude.
Whoever visits this island either on a day trip with a steam boat or on their own with a sailing boat, canoe, or kayak will really appreciate this gem at Schleimünde.
Over the centuries, the wind and waves have continuously formed the estuary creating this characteristic landscape.
A guided walk through the otherwise closed bird sanctuary, a swim in the Blatic Sea and a refreshing drink at the Giftbude will never make you forget your visit on this small but nice peninsula.
